The Hansen Hospital has been open for business this week. Luckily Tiffany, the nanny-extraordinaire, has been around to help us!
Yesterday Thane seemed to be on the upward mend, we were hoping he had swerved Mara’s flu and just caught some 24 hour bug. When Tiffany and I spoke Thursday afternoon, I even told her we would play it by ear Friday morning and see how he did. Apparently, I should just not talk. Thirty minutes later, Thane spiked 103.9 on the thermometer. Yep, no school for him! Tiffany (our own super hero) to the rescue!
She arrived Friday morning to a still hot Thane who had a very restless night. No sooner did the doorbell ring than Thane vomited. We rushed him to the bathroom where he got sick again and then proceeded to grab toilet paper to clean up his mess. Sorry for the graphic details but it was so cute and sad all at once. He was a trooper though and very brave. We assured him we would clean up the mess, he just needed to rest.
We agreed Tiffany would take him to the doctor’s for a quick appointment to confirm the flu and make sure his lungs sounded ok. We headed out, Thane sitting on the couch and seeming much better after getting sick. Jay ran quickly back in for something he forgot and came out laughing. Apparently, after we left, our son, aka Casanova, looked at Tiffany and said,
“I guess it is just you and me.”
Nice, even sick my sun is Joey Tribbiani.
They went to the doctor, Thane dressed as Spiderman to ward off evil flu viruses.

Flu was confirmed but he did great. A short time later they were back, ate pizza and he took a 4 hour nap.
Of course, tomorrow is soccer picture day, soccer game, and our Welcome Back dinner. All events on hiatus, although we might try to sneak in soccer pics if we can.
And on the most positive news I have received this week…
…When we moved back, we were told Jay’s health insurance would not go into effect until May, leaving us one month without coverage. Ridiculous, it sounded (like my Yoda impression?). We asked and asked and asked and got the same answer each time. In the end, we decided to take our chances and get COBRA retroactively if need be. I mean, it was only 30 days and we would be careful, right?
Yep, 8 days in and I have 2 kids with the flu and Jay either has the flu or is a very sympathetic dad.
Then something strange happened. Yesterday, I got our dental card. Then today, I got our prescription card. I found out we were covered and quickly filled today’s prescription ($50 instead of $300!). I then called the medical insurance company…and HALLELUJAH! THE HANSENS ARE INSURED! No longer a statistic in the government shut down.
TAKE THAT MURPHY!
