We are spending Christmas 2009 in New York City. We arrived (finally) on Sunday night after hitting a massive winter blizzard. Yesterday, we spent the day showing the kids Christmas NYC Style!
We started off with Santa at his favorite shopping spot…Bloomingdale’s! I have to say, I ouwas a little disappointed with “Santa”…he was British, seemed middle aged, had a very obvious fake beard on and held babies like sack of potatoes. He also kept vying for the moms to sit on his lap when baby would not be soothed.
Thane was not crazy about visiting Santa but liked the idea more when he was given a candy cane, got the chance to tell Santa he wanted THOMAS!, and was told he could stand to take the picture.
After Santa we walked around to see the store windows. We stopped into FAO Schwartz (what happened to the giant clock!?!?!) and Thane got to dance on the Big Piano. His first try would him smack into another little boy and then he could not find mommy and daddy but after he watched the dancers and got the chance to be there by himself he decided he loved it. We however, did not like the $250,000 price tag, so I think that Santa will not be leaving that under the tree.
More walking brought us chestnuts and pretzels from a street vendor to warm us up. We then made it to Rockefeller Center where we watched the Boni driver (aka Zamboni driver) clean the ice and saw the huge tree.
