This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Thane has taken notice of Mara. He says her name…Mawra…frequently. Ask him where she is, and he’ll look around and point when he sees her. He goes to her room every day to pick her up from school. This weekend though, it seemed mom and dad were not enough entertainment and he wanted a new friend.

When she was on her play mat yesterday morning, he went over and tried to pick her up (pics below). We like this much better than the time he tried to pick her up from the couch. He then played with her and her toys for a few minutes before showing her how all her toys make music in the mobile. He then decided it was time for her to roll over and rolled her to her tummy. And then back again. And then on her tummy.

This morning, he took mommy by the hand. Well, actually he started to push mommy’s leg which I redirected to holding my hand. Anyway, he took my hand and brought me to the nursery where Mara was sleeping. He said Mara several times and pointed at her. Apparently it was time for her to wake up, or so he thought. We told him it was time for her nap so we had to be quiet. He said Shhh and put his finger to his mouth. Good kid.

Mara is very taken with her big brother and is entertained by him constantly. She watches him intently and laughs and smiles for him.

In other Thane news, Thane is now taking an active choice in what he wears. He loves his jerseys, whether hockey or football. So much so that he often puts more than one shirt on at a time. He is also very fond of his jammies (current faves are dogs and sharks) and will pull the pants on over his pants. I am waiting for the day he does that before school. He can pretty much dress himself now except for the last bit of his pants. He gets them on but can’t get them fully over his tush…too much junk in that trunk I guess!

Thane’s 1st Skate

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Thane has had plenty of practice “skating” on the carpet in our house. Tonight he got to try it for real. We laced up his skates before Jay’s game against Beginner’s Luck (they lost 3-1). He walked around with confidence and even began to climb things in his skates.

Then daddy came out and took him out on the ice. Apparently, the sensation of sliding was weird and took him by surprise. That mixed with daddy sans goatee brought him to tears. Jay gave him back to me, I let him walk around a little more and then we tried round two. The second time out was slightly more successful, but still did not bring out huge smiles. We will leave that for the next time. We were impressed with his form…take a look at how straight his ankles are!
