Shoes

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Thane is obsessed with shoes right now (ah, he is my son!). He can sign the word for shoes, say Shoes very clearly, and for the last 3 weeks, he can even put them on! We got him Crocs for Christmas and he is a huge fan. If he has his other shoes on, he will take them off and put on the Crocs. If he has his Crocs on, he will take those off and ask for “Up” putting on the other shoes (those he has not mastered completely yet). He puts them on the correct feet about 65% of the time.

Here he is with his 3 favorite things right now: Shoes (on correctly by him), Sharks (which he can also say an point out atevery opportunity) and Hockey stick (he says “Ockey”, like a good little French Canadian!).

January Goings On

Friday, January 9th, 2009

January has been uneventful. I got to spend some quality time with both Thane and Mara while Thane was out from school for 2+ weeks. We went to swimming class, the museum a few times, and got to chill at home, even going outside when the weather allowed for it.

I think it was really good for Thane to have one on one (sort of) time with me now that Mara is here. I was really worried about how he would be (aka spoiled) when he went back to school but apparently the work we did helped tremendously. His vocab increased by leaps and bounds. He even had a conversation with his friend McAulay at school the other day. They sat up after nap and just started “talking” (with few discernible words), even using their hands to chat. He has also been very well behaved at school. Loves his pouring work.

And for the most exciting news…we have started (unofficially) the potty training AND Thane went peepee in the potty…a peepee in the potty…LAST NIGHT! He wanted to sit down, he did, and he did the deed. It was so exciting! (This is what we have become!) We decided we needed to tackle this hurdle since Thane is already wearing size 6 diapers and there is nothing above that except pull ups.

Mara Weeks 3-5

Mara is doing great and continues to amaze us with how well she is progressing. She can hold her head up very well as well as track our faces or fingers. She has so much more alert time now, too.

We are getting more and more sleep and then less and less sleep. One night she even “slept through the night” (10:30 pm – 5:30 am) and repeated that for 3 nights in a row. Then it was back to 3 and 6 am wakeup calls in addition to waking up a few times at 1 and staying awake and alert and wanting attention until 3 am. That is two hours for a very sleepy mommy. I am hoping that does not continue once I go back to work in three weeks.
