32 week appointment

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Today we had our 32 week appointment, complete with ultrasound and flat tire. We should name this baby Murphy with all the times we have invoked that law recently. We were about 30 minutes late, after Jay successfully changed the tire on the side of I65.

At the appointment, we barely saw her. The tech warned us of late pregnancy ultrasounds and how hard it is to see the baby clearly. She did show us where she was from head to toes. She is face down and weighing in at an astonishing 5 lbs 3 oz (guesstimate). At that rate, we should have an 8lb+ baby by the time we deliver.

We have now had our last ultrasound (our pocketbook is grateful) and everything looks good. I need to stop the indocin and take Procardia for comfort. I also apparently have acid reflux, which explains the last weeks 3 am vomiting (every night) so I need to get some Prilosec OTC and Pepcid.

Nothing else exciting to report. Cervix again is very long (50 cm) so no worries there.

She is still very very very active. Jay has felt her on numerous occasions, compared to only once with Thane. Did I mention she was active?

Oh, and speaking of activity, Thane fell asleep in his bed last night when I posted and did not wake up until this morning. Apparently when Jay went in he found a rather blank stare on his face. He said that if he had had the MMR vaccine yesterday, he would have flipped. The blank stare was soon replaced by smiles for daddy and then playing on his bed. Seems he was just very confused by his new surroundings. When he came out, he went straight to the nursery for a book. :)

Big Boy Bed…The beginning

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

We built it up, we told him he was a big boy and would be moving in to his own big boy room with a big boy bed. When I asked who was a big boy, he would proudly stick him thumb into his chest with a big smile. Yesterday, we bought the toddler bed and started to set up his room (our former guest room) and altered the new guest room/office. We showed it to him yesterday and then we showed it to him completed today. He immediately went to the bed and giggled while climbing on it.

Our plan for a nap as the entry point to the new room was foiled by a 12 pm Steelers game and then trip to Home Depot. He napped in the car. When we got home, he was not tired.

At 7:30 we put him in bed. We read him stories from the side of his bed, with him tucked in. I tell you, it was one of those classic, wow, I’m a parent moments. We said goodnight, left the room, shut the light and stayed upstairs. A few minutes later, we saw him at the baby gate to his room. Smiling. We told him to go back to his bed, it was time for sleep and headed downstairs. At 7:45 pm terror screams started as he wailed from the gate.

Jay headed up at 7:58. Turned on the Baby Beethoven about 5 minutes later. 10 minutes after that I headed upstairs to find an almost asleep baby and daddy sitting on the floor next to him, rubbing his back. I took over as Jay packed the car for hockey. 5 minutes later I was downstairs, Thane sound asleep.

It is now 9:48 pm and I have not heard a peep from him. Will keep you posted on how he does in the morning.

Welcome to the jungle

We left for NYC on Friday early afternoon. The 13+ hour trip turned into 17 hours of driving, with a stop over overnight. It was not as bad as expected, especially considering the motley crue we had…a 16 month old, a 7.5 month preggo wife, and a dog with an Elizabethan Collar that had just had surgery. Don’t you feel bad for Jay right about now? Thane slept a good bit of the way and when he was not sleeping, was easily entertained by the toys we brought for him (thanks for the Facebook suggestions!).

But then again, the trip was not so great either. Here is our itinerary according to Murphy’s Law.

Friday, Day 1: Can’t find a hotel that will take dogs. Finally find one and normally would not stay there, decide options are limited, we are exhausted, it is pouring rain and we need some sleep. Thane wakes up every hour on the hour. Should have stayed in the car.

Saturday, Day 2: Wake up in hotel. Don’t shower. Don’t brush teeth. Leave. While carrying Thane to car, I slip on wet pavement (it is no longer raining but the hurricane that passed over us left the pavement quite slickery). Fall. Fall on knees to try to avoid hurting baby in arms or baby in belly. Scream to Jay for help. He and an employee come to my aid. I start screaming at the very nice employee about their horrible hotel. Great way to start the 6 hour trip we have remaining. Seems to be no issue with baby in arm or baby in belly.

Sunday, Day 3: Wake up in comfortable, clean bed. Baby wakes up every couple of hours but not as bad as previous night. Go to bathroom. Blood in toilet. Scream to Jay (notice a trend here?). Call Dr. Wise while Jay showers, expecting us to rush to the emergency room. Dr. Wise calls back. Apparently this is a common pregnancy thing which also afflicts millions of Americans and which Preparation H makes millions and millions on each year. Yuck.

Monday, Day 5: Wake up. Take Jake out. Notice our car is missing a window, which is all over the street. GPS system is taken, everything else is strewn about the front seat. Glass is all over the car as well.

Tuesday, Day 6: Glass fixed to tune of $250 but need to replace GPS on our own since it is under our homeowner’s insurance deductible ($1k). Meet Jay for lunch. Favorite sushi place is closed for lunch until Oct 5th. Favorite Indian restaurant is just plain closed.

Oh, who know what the rest of the week will bring? Maybe I should play the lottery tonight. On second thought, maybe not, I’ll probably buy the one ticket that requires US to pay the WINNER $100 million.

The rest of the trip is going well. Thane loves his grandparents. So does Jake who is getting very pampered and fat with all the table food they have been giving him. It is great for us to see Thane with Gia and Pappou. They love him so much and he even repeated after me…”I love my pappou!”
