26 & 27 week updates

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I had my 26 week appointment last week and things are looking great. She is definitely a she (phew, now I can keep buying pink) and is doing very well. She is 2 lbs, which is slightly larger than average. She was very active, something they always comment on but don’t need to tell me! We got to see a lot of good images of her and I commented that she looked very cute.

My doctor was so pleased with my progress (no additional fluid, no cervix changes) that I do not need an ultrasound at the next visit! Yay! We planned out the rest of my visits and the baby will be born on or before December 4th.

I also had my glucose screening which I apparently failed. “Only slightly though.” The only slightly bit still made me go through the four hour screening yesterday. Fast from midnight on, get blood drawn at 8:31 am, drink ugly orange drink within 5 minutes (I pretty much shot it because it is so gross, why prolong the inevitable?), read book, get blood drawn at 9:31 am, read book, determine left arm is wasted and move to right arm — get blood drawn at 10:31 am, read book, get blood drawn at 11:31 am, meet hubby at Sitar to break fast. Yumm! I should get the results this afternoon.

In the how am I doing list—eh. This pregnancy is very different than last time. Weight gain has been atrocious although I did not gain any the last visit. I break out into tears easily and they don’t go away quickly. I asked for access to our company’s Mother’s Rooms so I could compose myself every once in a while and was told they would have to check, it is for nursing mom’s only and they don’t think they can give preggos access.

Becky is pregnant (ha! did you want that on the internet??) and she and I are taking Water Aerobics on Tues/Thurs and Yoga on Wed (both Prenatal). Jay is being super supportive and taking care of Thane all week it seems. I feel more uncomfortable than last time, but I think that is mainly the emotional overload I am on.

Jay is going to NYC for training (Maybe) at the end of October and staying with my grandparent’s to save some corporate cost so I asked my OB if I could go. She basically laughed. No, she did laugh. So did the nurse. Apparently, there is no way in hell they are letting me fly at 34 weeks.

On Thane news, he is doing famously in his new classroom. He has a lunchbox with Senators stickers on it which he carries to and from school with his back pack (almost!) every day. His vocab is growing by leaps and bounds and Jay is working with him daily on new words. Now he can say:

*Ma-ma
*Da-da
*Dog
*Ba-Ba (for bottle, which really means cup, ok, so that is not a good example)
*Baby
*Yeah (working on Yes)
*Hi
*Bye-Bye
*Opa! (he learned that at the Greek festival)
*Gia Gia
*Car
*Ear
*(Baby’s Name)-still under wraps

I think I am missing some, but since this is my online baby book, I will add as I remember.

He also is understanding a lot more. We ask him to put on/take off his shirt and he can (head only). If we ask him where his belly is, he lifts his shirt and laughs. He can point to our noses on command or his or our ears on command. Sometimes he will do his nose. He can point to mommy’s tummy when asked where is the baby (he points and says her name). In books, he can point out the strawberry (thanks, Julie!) or dog or mouse or baby. He gives kisses and hugs when you ask. He puts things back when asked (thanks, Montessori!) and in the right spot, especially if that is the garbage (although he has thrown somethings away that were not meant to be in the garbage). He is also very good about fitting things inside each other, we need to get the boy some puzzles.

This last weekend we went to the Greek Fest with friends and their little boy (18 months old). He got to sample some food (he was being pretty finicky that day though) and see a petting zoo. Mom and Dad got to talk some politics with some like-minded Greeks. I will give an update on the weekend in another post, it was a busy one.

We still need a ton of baby stuff–how is that possible when we just had one? I heard somewhere that girls cost 25% more than boys. Fun. We are in debate on whether to get a new crib set for her or move him to a toddler bed and her to his set. Stay tuned.
