Last Day of School

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Friday was Thane’s “last day of school.” This week, we are on a week’s break and then next week, he starts the Toddler 1 program. It is very exciting. As sad as I am to see him leave Erica and Kim, I think he is ready to move up. Every day when I dropped him off this week he was heading to the Toddler classroom and everyday he fussed when I brought him to the infant room. I think he is in a, been there, done that mode with the infant room.

The Toddler room is designed for 14 months – 2 years and has lots of new, fun things to explore. Jessica, Erica’s sister is his teacher. Last week, they did a couple of transition times and brought the kids moving up (there are 4 of them!) into the room. Thane and his buddy Cooper did great! It is reassuring to have him move up with his friends too, at least amidst all the change, there will be some constant faces.

Yesterday was the Fall Carnival at school. We made Spanakopita (Spinach Pie) which appeared to be a hit. Thane loved the petting zoo. Yes, that is a snake around his neck. When we got home, he was a fussy little gus. Our next door neighbors suggested it was because he could not say, “Hey, wow, that was really fun. I want to go back! Now!”

A day in the life of a 14 month old…

6:30 am: Wake up, start crying or playing in bed, depending what side of the crib I woke up on
6:35 am: Sign for milk, if I am really hungry, make sign with both hands
6:45 am: Yum, milk is done. Walk over to drawers in bathroom and start picking things out of them (good thing mom and dad took all the dangerous stuff out!)
7 am-ish (ok, ok, 7 on good days, 7:22 on bad days, 7:45 on REALLY bad days): Eat breakfast, maybe some veggie sausages. Have not gotten eggs since GiaGia left
7:30ish (dependent on above): Arrive at school, walk in by myself with backpack on my pack, say hi to Shawn, an older kid, say bye to mommy and daddy
7:45 am: Feed baby Alexa her bottle, she needs help, and maybe a kiss.
8 am-4:30 pm: Play with Cooper and all my friends, go outside, eat, take a nap, eat, go outside, sing songs, climb stairs, play with water, get messy, change clothes
4:30 pm: Mommy and Daddy are here! Yay! Walk over to them, usually with crackers or a toy in hand!
5:00 pm: Dogs!
5:45 pm: Swimming with mommy and daddy at the pool, I can jump in all by myself and float on my back for 10 seconds
7 pm: Dinner, fish is on the menu tonight! I like it, but I think Jake wants some too, here you go Jake!
7:30ish: Brusha Brusha Brusha, I can brush my teeth all by myself!
7:32ish: 4 books and it is off to bed…my current fave is “What does Baby Say?”
7:45 pm: Baby Says, “Night Night!”

Here are some pics from gia and pappou’s visit and some from this last weekend outside in the heat, you would never know it was late afternoon when I took these.
