Good thing someone sweeps

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I was loading the dishwasher and Jay was cleaning pots from dinner. Thane was running around the house when he saw the dogs’ dishes…one empty (Jake’s), one half full (Bailey’s). He leaned over to play with them and Jay started to tell him to stop. Then he saw what he was doing. He would lift several pieces of kibble from half full bowl to empty bowl, pick up, move, drop, pick up, move drop.

We watched for a few minutes and just as Jay opened his mouth to say, wow, he has a great deal of patience and concentration, Thane picked up the half full bowl and emptied it on the floor. Dog kibble everywhere.

After a few attempts to get him to put them back in the bowl or at least the dogs to eat them, Jay got the broom out of the garage and swept them up. At which point, Thane picked up the full again bowl and turned it upside down. Before Jay and I had a chance to stop laughing, he proceeded to pick up the broom and “sweep” up the evidence.

He has also started helping me unload the dishwasher, one fork, spoon, and sippy cup at a time.

Not bad. I knew having kids had its benefits.

Oh, and here are some pics from his first day at school, too. Check out the faux-hawk.

First Haircut

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Thane’s hair was looking rather shaggy, as Jay says, he needed either dog tags or a violin. So, despite what we had said, we gave him his first haircut today at Sweet & Sassy.

When we walked in, Jay just about made us walk out. His immediate reaction–”This place is for girls!” Well…it was rather…9 year old girl. We ended up staying after I gave him some puppy dog eyes when he started talking about the flowbee. We got the “First Haircut Special” which included certificate, lock of hair and photo.

Thane did really well sitting for the cut. He played with an airplane and watched Toy Story 2. The woman cutting his hair obviously liked kids and chatted it up with us. She even did not mind the million pics we snapped.

While we were there, there was a girl’s birthday party with 10 of her closest friends. They paraded around in glamour outfits like flappers, singing at the top of their lungs. It was a hoot, especially when I pointed out to Jay that he would soon have one of those!

We could not get a good finale shot of our handsome guy. While the hairdresser (Danielle) commented on how great he did not crying or fussing, his stoic behavior was really more of a pout, one we could not get off his face while he was in the hot seat.

The T is for Trouble

Wondering what Thane has been up to lately now that he is a walking fiend? Well, let’s see…

Ever thought a box of cereal could such a mess?
How about a wine rack that has been moved 3 times and is now in a room he never enters…or so we thought?
How about the case of the missing earring this morning at 6:45 am? (No pictures on that one, just panic until we found the earring, on the bed, where he put it. Dressers are no longer high enough to stop curious hands)

I guess we will forgive him, he is still awfully cute! I guess we can find better hiding places, too.

There are some new pics with him and his new best friend-the Bloomies bear Gia got him before he was even born.
