Those words were spoken to us about 5 years ago in our first house. Those words never rang so true…

Below is a list of death traps I never realized were around until my child got mobile…

  • *Our brand new, flat screen HD LCD TV that teeters on our very cool TV Stand
  • *Speaker Cables
  • *Decorative Travertine Balls by the Fireplace
  • *Wine Bottles
  • *Dog Food
  • *Laptop Power Cords
  • *Any power cord (how many of these things do we have???)
  • Plus, no matter how many times we run the Roomba or have the cleaning woman come over, Thane continues to mop our floor better than we ever could…

This last week has been rather stressful, hence my absence from writing. Two things happened, our big project at work deployed this weekend and Jay’s mom had a stroke. Please keep her in your thoughts.

Chaos did not stop Thane from making some huge advancements. We are very proud to report that our little baby is turning very quickly into a little boy.

*CRAWLING–Thane took his first wiggly army crawl on Super Bowl Sunday. Since the, he is mastering the army crawl and is actually doing a few steps on all four. Once we put him on the floor, he is gone. well, maybe not that fast. He definitely uses every ounce of energy to move and grunts all along the way but he covers the entire living room with his movements. He has not left the living room yet, so I have never put him down there just to find him in the kitchen, but I am sure that is just a matter of time. And, I have definitely realized my floors are just never clean enough. I am thinking of putting some Swiffer cloths on his onesie so we can knock out that job while he crawls!

*CLAPPING–Daddy taught Thane to clap and now he does it ALL the time. The other day, he even started producing sound with it, not just soft claps.

*SPEAKING–Jay has been working on it for a week or so and this weekend Thane said…DA DA!!! It was so exciting to hear his very first word. I don’t think he necessarily associates it with Jay exactly, but he says it when prompted and says it pretty regularly. Jay is mush for it. The other night Thane was crying in his crib at the hotel. We generally let him cry it out but then we heard, “Da Da, Da da, Da da.” That was it, Da Da was mush and rushed in to get him. He is wrapped around his little finger like never before!

Here are some fun photos from the last week…

Sunday, Thane started showing signs of not feeling well. Sunday night, we came home from James and Diane’s and Jay got sick…literally. Not fun. Thane woke up in the middle of the night, very strange for him, but we had a long day and I knew he was not feeling well.

By some stroke of luck, I checked on him again before I went to bed. Poor little guy had vomited all over himself and the sheets. It was everywhere. I called Jay in–I felt so bad to call the sick to help the sick but it was just so overwhelmingly everywhere and I could not get Thane out of his pj’s without getting it in more places. So, we got the little guy changed, stripped the bed, and called the doctor.

A few minutes later we were assured he could not choke on his own vomit and he was finally asleep in our arms. We put him in the bassinet in our room which now barely fits him.

I went to the doctor for open hours the next morning (I love that!) and Dr. Frank confirmed it was a stomach bug that would last a while. He also said Thane would be out of school for the better part of the week.

We were told that he would not be eating much, to feed him smaller amounts every 3 hours or so and give Pedialyte and popsicles. As long as he is having wet diapers, all is ok.

Jay has been home with him all week. We went back in to the doctor this morning because we suspected he might have an ear infection–he kept tugging on his ear. Dr. Frank said that is not always a sign of an ear infection (if we brought him in every time, we would be in the doctor’s office twice a day!) but that the ear did look a little funny. He gave us some antibiotics and told us to hold off unless he looked like the infection got worse (fever, fussiness, etc).
