Warning…Rambling Ahead….

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

I have not blogged in over a week because on the way home from the airport (the airport, you say?) last Sunday night, my car died. On the interstate. At dusk. With a baby. Don’t that make bad movies about this?

I am jumping ahead….here goes.

Last Thursday we made an impromptu visit to the Great White North of Connecticut due to a not-so-happy family thing (don’t you like that gloss over?). We spent the night in Hartford, Ct at a hotel because we arrived so late. Friday day we took care of things and Friday night we spent the night with our friends Jaime and Neale and their beautiful family. We had a wonderful time! They have a 3 year old little boy, Camden, who has a ton of adorable curly hair and is full of energy and a little girl, Kathryn, who is 2 weeks older than Thane. Kathryn may also be referred to as Thane’s future bride… :)

New Pics from Scott

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Last Friday we went to Scott’s studio in Franklin to take some pictures for a possible Christmas card. At this point, everyone might get it at Christmas…next year. Here are the results. The quality ones of me where my eyebrow arches rival those of the best clowns in Ringling Bros are my attempts to get the Great Thane to smile!

6 Month Checkup

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Yesterday was a busy day for us. At the crack of dawn (otherwise known as 7:30 am) we headed to Scott’s studio in downtown Franklin to reshoot the Christmas card photos. The early morning hopefully lended itself to a happier baby and therefore better pictures–we’ll see how that turns out in a couple of days.

Then it was off to work…a relatively short day at work, thankfully, as we had just finished a pretty big accomplishment just the day before. At around 2ish we all packed up to leave. Jay and I picked up Thane from school around 3 and headed to see Dr. Frank. The office was very quiet, obviously we picked a good time for an appointment, and we saw Dr. Frank very quickly. Thane got 4 shots today, including his last Hepatitis B shot. Dr. Frank asked if we wanted a flu shot, but since it does have trace amounts of mercury, we opted to go to the Red Cross to get the mercury free flu shot for him (and dad since he has not gotten his yet).

We talked alot about food. What to eat, what not to eat, how often. Basic theory is that Thane will let us know how much he needs to be eating. Dr. Frank also gave us a list of No-no’s in terms of food.

Milk
Eggs
Nuts
Seafood
Honey
Strawberries

Some of these, like milk and eggs, can be ok when used in small amount and mixed in with something, but for the most part, they are all not to be eaten right now.

Then Dr. Frank noticed something very exciting….2 somethings! Thane’s front bottom 2 teeth are about to come in! He said he could happen tomorrow or next month, but they will be here soon! We will keep you posted!

Finally, for his 6 month stats (his 4 month stats comparison is in parentheses)…

Weight: 18 lbs 9 oz; 70% (up 3 lbs 1 oz, same percentile)
Height: 28 inches; 90% (up 2 inches and 5%)
Head Circumference: 44 CM; 60% (up 2 cm and same percentile)

Thane got a clean bill of health across the board. Our lesson last time about the shots made these a lot less painful with no side effects this time–no fever, no major muscle pain and only a little fussiness. Hey, we are getting to be pros at this stuff!

Thane is also getting much more interested in books. Here he is pointing out his favorites to daddy in “Yum, Yum, Dim Sum!

Here he is making his not so happy face after mommy unsuccessfully tried a make your own baby food recipe. It was green. Need I say more?
