Stop the Presses, I mean M e d s!

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Wednesday was my 35 week visit. I had taken my last Procardia at midnight. I went in to see the doctor and everything seemed great. No ultrasound this time but I heard the heartbeat and it was musical. Dr. Wise, contrary to what Jay and I thought, seemed pretty sure that there was no baby in sight this week…I was still only 1 cm dilated and she believed the meds were well enough in my system to keep him there. She sent me home saying she’d see me next week and to stay off the meds, if it happened, it happened.

Rewind just a little…Jay has spoken to every clerk, vet, and neighbor he meets about preterm labor. Seems everyone has a story and most end with “and she went off the meds and went in to labor the very next day.” Add that to the fact that I don’t need a clock to tell me when my next pill is due, we were pretty confident we would have a baby before Memorial Day.

Wednesday passed without incident. So did Thursday morning. Around 3 pm on Thursday was when it happened. (more…)

Baby Shower

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I have always been against baby showers, thinking they were bad luck. I even had trouble attending them since I thought it was cursing the baby’s upcoming birth. Friends were always very supportive of what Jay referred to as my deep rooted paranoia masked as superstition. He and others slowly convinced me that this was actually happening and should something go wrong, he was in charging of hiding everything.

I started to get very excited about a shower for Baby Thane and Emily was very excited to plan away! We planned the date, we planned the couple’s party at Robb & Emily’s, everything was going according to plan.

Then….dun dun dun….Hospitalization & Bedrest. That’s what I get for giving up my convictions so easily!

Party plans were put on hold and when they were revisited, we kept the date and made an intimate little girls’ tea instead of a big broo ha ha. I am so glad we did….even after that I was EXHAUSTED!

The party was PERFECT. Weather could not have been any better had Emily put in a special request (and knowing the way she plans parties, she very well may have!) Anna even got involved and got me some balloons! She also helped take care of Baby Aria, only 6.5 weeks old!

I just looked up the name of the Williamson County contact person for installing/checking infant car seats.

Lt. Dusty Rhoades

This Yankee will never understand these things.
