In the Big League

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

My hockey star has turned pro….the lights, the scoreboard, the action. Thats right, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…Jay has been specially invited to play hockey at the Gaylord Entertainment Center, home of the #1 team in the NHL, your Nashville Predators. On that very night, he will be playing a hockey game on Predator ice and will be wearing a Predator jersey!!!

OK…so those two events will not be happening at the same and no he has not been called up to the majors from the Adult league. BUT…he and his team, the Abominable Snowmen, will be playing at the GEC following a Predators game on Monday, February 19th. It is a redo of the game against Beginner’s Luck (Jay’s old team), that ended in injury. We are so excited. Tickets are just $20 if you want to come watch the Preds open up for the Abominables! Preds vs. Coyotes at 5 pm, Abominables vs. Beginner’s Luck @ 8 pm.

Let me know if you want tickets!

Meet Thanos

THANOS TEAGUE HANSEN

Butterbean has a name….Thanos Teague Hansen!

Thanos: Greek: Immortal
Teague: Gaelic: Poet

Jay always loved the name “Teague” so we had that as the middle name for a boy for quite some time. The quest for a first name was a little more complicated. The name had to meet two criteria, be Greek and be unique. Then we wanted to find a name for a boy that was strong but also easy for friends, family and the rest of the world to pronounce. For this, we found Thanos (pronounced Tha-NOS).

In Greek, a person, especially a male, is referred to in the accusative and then spoken to in the nominative. For example…you would say…

Thanos is a boy.

but you would speak to him and say:

Good Morning, Thane! (in Greek, pronounced Tha-NAY)

So, for that, the nickname for Thanos will be “Thane” (rhymes with plane), which we think goes really well with the Danish last name Hansen.

We really love the name, think it is unique and strong without being too outlandish. We hope you like it, too!

We had our 20 week ultrasound this morning and it went GREAT!

I thought this week was going to go sooo slowly. Turns out, life was too busy for time to slow down. A few of our friends recently had babies that were not “cooperative” during the ultrasound, so I decided to not take any chances. I drank about a gallon (or what felt like it) of water beforehand and Jay got me a Mountain Dew on the way there. I don’t Do the Dew (or soda period), so that in itself was quite an experience!

We arrived at the office and waited a relatively short time. I was about to EXPLODE so I was beginning to wish this whole thing would hurry up. I certainly was not looking forward to feeling her push on my belly! They called us in and started the ultrasound. Nothing exciting for the first few minutes and then the printer broke, so I sat there full bladder for a few more minutes. I finally got to go to the bathroom and (sorry, gross but funny moment coming) my sample looked like Mountain Dew. I swear it was carbonated!

I went back and we continued the ultrasound; everything looked really perfect. Fingers, toes, nose, all the good stuff! Then, she asked if we were ready to find out and had the screen in the same spot for a while. Jay and I both said, nope, we think we can tell on our own!!! My mother’s intuition was right…IT’S A BOY! Let’s just say, he was not bashful at all! I think we saw 4 or 5 times that he was a boy! A boy with very big feet…although the tech said they looked normal, Jay and I agree that he seems to be taking after daddy in the feet category!

She did see some excess fluid in the uterus so I am scheduled for another ultrasound next month. She did not seem too stressed and said it might just be because I drank so much that morning.

Jay and I were on cloud nine all day!!! It is great to finally call Butterbean a boy and speak to him. Jay started reading to him last week, so I went and bought a few boy geared books. We watched the video they gave us last night and saw him suck his thumb, something we missed during the visit, it was great.

I have a few ultrasound pics, but honestly, none are great and I need to figure out how to scan them well. I will post when I get some good ones.
