Sorry, kids…I have been getting a ton of spam comments on the site lately. With that in mind…I have had to change it that only registered users can comment. But COMMENT AWAY! Love to hear from everyone!

Just shy of 6 years at iNet Strategy, I turned in my notice last Friday. I am Asurion’s newest Infrastructure Project Manager. Welcome to putting all of our eggs in one basket. Let’s hope that basket is not the next Enron!

Part of the pre-employment process is a drug test to be completed within 48 hours of hire. The place is in Cool Springs and only open from 8-4, so I am going to be late. I wake up Tuesday morning, go to the gym and headed to the testing center. Anyone who knows my morning routine knows that a big healthy breakfast and glass of water is not a part of it. Did I think anything at all about the test…umm, no. So here I walk in and get in line at 8:01 am. I get called in at 8:15 and start stressing because I have a 9 am meeting. I am given a little cup and told to fill it to a line that might as well have been as tall as the Empire State Building. 1 Bashful Bladder and 0 cups of coffee later, I get half-way there and hand it to the guy thinking we will be good or if not I can come back. Bzzz. No way! Not only is it not enough but I am told the following:

  • If I leave, Asurion will be told I refused to take the test.
  • If I stay, I will be given a 6 oz bottle of water every 30 minutes.
  • Most people need at least 2 bottles of water to complete the task.
  • There goes my 9 am. In the end, 1 bottle and sheer aggravation was all I needed…but wow…I came really close to saying I failed a drug test. And if you know me, you know that is quite an accomplishment!

It is rather anti-climactic to write an entry over a month after the event. Especially when Jay and I are both getting our butts beat in the Fantasy Football realm. Jay blames our not-so-stellar draft picks on us being crazy busy this summer…hmmm… Regardless…one month late…here is the story of the 5th Annual Fantasy Fools football draft.

It is very bad when I, the girl from NYC who never saw a football, let alone a football field before, starts missing the game. But the annual ritual was calling my name and we started to get ready for the season. We had everything planned. Two new teams were joining, we had the new house with more room for the party and more room for the overnight guests, and we had the beer. And then Jay’s scheduled changed and so did the weekend for the draft. Oh well, at least he did not have to telecommute Christmas!

The party was one for the books! We missed Robb and Dean but Emily and Mary Beth sat in for them…and they are not doing too shabby for the choices of the ladies, I might add! Anna was also a big hit! She helped with the entertainment and a fun game of hide and go seek. Emily’s dad also showed and came bearing gifts…a bottle of red…called Bitch. Should I be offended or do the Culvers know me too well?

The draft progressed quicker than previous years, surprisingly enough, and was still lots of fun. We proceeded outside afterwards to the Killian’s keg and some of John’s crazy antics (even more entertaining than Anna!).

There is more to this photo…but you just had to be there…

The annual poker tradition resumed next and my new mission of not betting every hand kept me in longer than usual but I am still man enough to play in the big leagues…oh well.

Mary Beth, crazy girl, headed home after poker, a 3 hour drive and amazingly enough she made it home safe and sound. Driving at 1 am…wow…I have trouble being awake at that hour, let alone driving in a car by myself!

Adam hit the hockey equipment after that and then it was off to bed for everyone. What a night…
